Ensuring Interoperability
MIM's present and future success relies on solutions interoperating with networks and current messaging formats. To encourage essential interoperability principles throughout the marketplace, Colibria is an associate member of the GSMA Personal Instant Messaging (Personal IM) initiative. This is an initiative designed to enable mobile users to exchange instant messages across networks. Currently there are over 40 Operators and Service Providers involved in the PIM initiative with a total addressable subscriber base in excess of 1.13 billion.
SMS Evolution
SMS Evolution is a comprehensive package of solutions that enables Operators to deliver MIM services to market. Through its interworking with existing technologies and devices and interconnect with other Operator networks, the package provides the opportunity to evolve current messaging like SMS and MMS into exciting, profitable new generation of MIM services.
The IMPS-based Colibria Elevate platform also provides flexible client and server modules that meet every MIM service requirement. Colibria's solution ensures that consumers can engage quickly and easily with IM services, while putting Operators in control of their business model, brand and service development.
Through Operator Interconnect, Operators can interconnect MIM services with other national and international Operators. Thanks to this compatibility, consumers can include friends from other Operators in their contact lists and exchange instant messages across different networks. For example, in Spain, Colibria has interconnected Telefonica Moviles' SMS 2.0 service with Vodafone's Messenger service.
SMS and MMS Interworking
The success take-up of MIM services relies on people always being able to communicate with their friends, family and contacts, including non-MIM consumers. To allow seamless messaging with non-MIM consumers, Colibria Elevate interworks with SMS and MMS. This means a MIM consumer can add non-MIM contacts to their buddy lists and send and receive messages. The non-MIM consumer will then receive messages as an SMS or MMS.
Furthermore, if a consumer is not logged into MIM, they can forward their messages as an SMS or MMS. This uninterrupted continuity meets a core aim of the GSM Association's Personal IM initiative.
IMS Interworking
Colibria's MIM solutions can include an IMS-IMPS interworking module. This enables SIP-based IM to interwork with IMPS-based IM, allowing systems to share messages and Presence information across IMS and IMPS-based IM services.
These solutions also include specific clients, offering Operators and Service Providers new opportunities to deliver MIM services to the market.
