Colibria Provides the IM Power Behind dixiTel’s New Messaging Service
Belgian service provider dixiTel selects Colibria for its low-cost dixiChat messaging service, launching across Belgium in February 2006.
Colibria AS, the leading international developer of mobile Instant Messaging and Presence Service technology platforms, has been selected by the Belgian telephony provider dixiTel for a new fixed price messaging service, branded dixiChat. Colibria is partnering with dixiTel to provide a complete end-to-end solution for the new messaging service, which is initially being launched in Belgium. The dixiChat service is powered by the Colibria Companion IM and Presence Server, which incorporates a feature-rich PC client, as well as comprehensive support for downloadable terminal clients, including J2ME.
dixiTel’s CEO Jess Bach believes they are opening the door on an exciting new style of communications for customers across Europe, commenting: "We have concentrated on identifying the best technologies and partners for our new service, believing that the time is right to offer a completely new style of communications, matched by low prices, value for money and easy access. We are working closely with operators KPN and Netcom, as well as with technology specialists such as Colibria to provide us with a leading edge solution that enables mobile Instant Messaging in a cost-effective and easy to use service. As a dynamic, highly flexible service provider, we can bring new ideas to market quickly and aggressively. With dixiChat, we anticipate rapid take-up for the service and fast viral growth across Europe, particularly across teenagers and the 18-35 age bracket. This is an extremely exciting opportunity for dixiChat and all our partners."
dixiTel’s new service represents a significant extension of the messaging concept, offering a new level of communication within a mobile package. For a fixed price, users can send unlimited numbers of "dixis" or Instant Messages, with dixiChat also allowing users to set up their own chat groups, tracing the entire conversation on the mobile. The dixiChat Client can also be downloaded onto a PC, with automatic routing that detects whether a user is logged on with their mobile or PC for message delivery. Designed as an intuitive, easy to use service, the Dixi Client clearly indicates whether a message is sent as a "dixi", as well as showing message content in both online and offline modes, supported by status text, and a presence picture.
The Colibria Companion IM and Presence Server provides a powerful carrier-grade instant messaging and presence enabler, capable of delivering certified OMA IMPS and SIP/IMS support. It has unmatched embedded client interoperability, as well as support for legacy clients – SMS, MMS, HTML, XHTML, and WAP. It incorporates a feature-rich PC client, as well as support for a multitude of downloadable terminal clients, including Symbian, J2ME, iMode, Microsoft Mobile Clients and BREW. Colibria’s IM and Presence technology platform is an established powerhouse, providing a growing number of mobile operators and strategic partners with a cost-effective, scaleable, and flexible resource on which to base a burgeoning range of compelling enhanced messaging services.
A key part of Colibria’s activity involves working with the industry, including operators, service providers and handset suppliers, to ensure interoperability between devices and platforms. Colibria’s IMPS and SIP test server facilities are regularly employed by over 100 users in 30 countries for product and service trials, enabling a reliable and accurate evaluation of new concepts and applications, to pave the way for subscribers to take full advantage of the embedded and downloadable clients in current and future generation handsets.
