Colibria’s Companion IM and Presence Server deployed for the roll-out of Telefonica Moviles Espana’s Movistar Messenger service
Colibria AS, the leading international developer of mobile Instant Messaging and Presence Service technology platforms, announces that its Colibria Companion IM and Presence Server is being deployed in the Spanish market for Telefonica Móviles España, the region’s premier mobile operator. Demonstrating its continuing industry leadership in the messaging sector, Colibria’s solution is supporting Telefonica Móviles España’s requirement to continue offering best-in-class services to its subscribers, with the roll-out of its Movistar Messenger service being based on the Colibria Companion server platform.
Mobile instant messaging is seen as an important extension to Telefonica Móviles España’s existing messaging services. The Movistar Messenger service will enable subscribers to send instant messages, and view their contacts’ Presence, both from a PC client and a variety of mobile clients. Colibria’s Companion IM and Presence Server is providing Telefonica Móviles España with the means to offer its customer base a converged mobile and fixed IM and Presence service, which will ensure interoperability with other network operators. The IM and Presence Service is based on the OMA IMPS standard, with support for SIP and IMS in advance of these technologies being fully standardized.

The Colibria Companion IM and Presence Server provides a powerful carrier-grade instant messaging and presence enabler, capable of delivering certified OMA IMPS and SIP/IMS support. It has unmatched embedded client interoperability, as well as support for legacy clients – SMS, MMS, HTML, XHTML, and WAP. It incorporates a feature-rich PC client, with support for a multitude of downloadable terminal clients, including Symbian, J2ME, iMode, Microsoft Mobile Clients and BREW. Colibria Companion’s Internet IM Gateway offers comprehensive IM interoperability, combining an IM and Presence Gateway for mobile and PC messaging convergence, as well as access to established Internet communities such as MSN and Google Talk.
