Colibria Completes Successful OMA Testing in Dusseldorf

5 Oct 2006

Colibria AS, the leading international developer of Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM) and Presence solutions, reports another successful interoperability testing of its Colibria Companion Instant Messaging and Presence Server, at the Open Mobile Alliance’s (OMA) Test Fest-16 in Düsseldorf last week. Colibria, as a highly active participant in the international standards arena, and with a strong focus on interoperability between devices, platforms and operators, tested its IMPS 1.3 server. Shown to have a functionality and feature coverage of 95 percent, it therefore constitutes an operationally complete OMA IMPS 1.3 tested server. Colibria’s Companion Instant Messaging and Presence Server is featured on OMA’s product listing, where the results achieved at TestFest-16 are now available (these can be found at http://product.openmobilealliance.org).

Colibria’s IMPS 1.3 server supports the latest IMPS specifications. These include enhanced features that give operators the ability to interact with end users by the use of system messages, and end users get the ability to extend one-to-one dialogues into a group. The multi session capability makes it possible for the end user to be logged onto more than one client at the same time.

The IMPS technology is the basis for building an operator’s own IM community, as well as communities built around existing Internet IM providers (e.g. MSN). Colibria’s CTO Lars Kristian Roland commented:
"Colibria is highly committed to standards, and plays an important role in defining specifications. Interoperability is the key for the success of a service; between devices, servers, technologies and operators. Through Colibria’s contributions to standards development, including the OMA IMPS specifications, we ensure that operators can launch cross-network and cross-technology services, regardless of device. This contributes to the achievement of the immense traffic growth and revenue generation that operators will face by launching Mobile Instant Messaging services."

Fred Harrison, Vice Chair OMA and Chairman of its Board Interoperability Committee, also commented:
"Colibria’s commitment, to developing and proving the quality and interoperability of the OMA IMPS version 1.3 Candidate Enabler, provides a real benefit to the Mobile Instant Messaging market and to its adoption by operators and mobile users. The commitment of companies such as Colibria to the TestFest program gives the mobile application enabler market a very bright future."
