Colibria Launches New Subscription Management and Service Analysis Tools for Industry-Leading Mobile Instant Messaging Platform

6 Jun 2007

Colibria, a leading developer of new generation Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM) solutions, has today announced the addition of new subscription management and service statistics server modules to its leading Elevate MIM portfolio.

These two innovative server modules will enable operators to offer a range of flexible subscription based MIM services, and will also provide an effective tool to track subscriber usage patterns and generate comprehensive data that can be used to evolve and develop their service strategy.

For mobile users the subscription module will provide pricing transparency, allowing them to subscribe and use MIM services with peace of mind. For operators, this new level of flexibility will help to drive the take-up of MIM by removing a potential barrier for the user.

As MIM continues to grow in popularity, subscription based usage will help to facilitate the reliable usage patterns operators have enjoyed with SMS, a key market model migration point.

The two business models supported are:

  • Subscriptions which include time based offers, such as ‘all you can eat’ per month/week or bundled messaging where users pay a fixed price for a specific MIM package that suits their needs
  • Promotional packages which include initial discount periods where MIM services can be purchased via the messaging client and inform users when their subscription requires renewal

Colibria’s new statistics server module will enable operators to measure, analyse and manage different aspects of their MIM services deployed using Colibria’s Elevate platform.

The statistics module records MIM traffic patterns across a number of data points, including the volume of MIMs generated, daily usage patterns and MIM content types, e.g. multimedia attachments and presence updates. A web-based interface allows operators to accurately measure service take-up and identify patterns among mobile users including usage peaks in messaging during the day. From this, operators can adapt their MIM offerings and further develop their MIM subscriber base.

Lars Kristian Roland, CTO of Colibria commented, "These new tools provide added intelligence to MIM services which provides operators with greater transparency and control over their service than ever before. Colibria is committed to driving forward innovation for MIM, to enhance user experience and reduce the barriers to service uptake. We are already seeing operators like Telia Sonera capitalising on the added flexibility that the new subscription server module provides."
