Customer Case Studies
Since 2001 Colibria has been enabling communication across new generation mobile communities. Here are a few of the Colibria success stories so far:

MIM LAUNCHED IN ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING MARKETS
The MTN Group is the leading provider of communication services in Africa and the Middle East with over 61m subscribers in 21 countries. As a leader in its field, innovation is paramount to MTN's brand values. With today's consumers searching for new, exciting and interactive ways to communicate, MTN was quick to recognise the opportunity for brand differentiation. In December 2007, MTN deployed a new mobile IM (MIM) service in South Africa, called 'noknok', powered by Colibria.
The service enables MTN subscribers to impulsively communicate and share experiences with individuals and groups via Mobile IM. With Presence also enabled as part of the MIM service, subscribers can additionally see what their friends are up to, how they are feeling and whether they are available to chat or talk at a glance. The Colibria solution utilised by MTN provides innovative mobile and PC-based Instant Messaging clients, and also supports SMS continuity as a vital part of ensuring a seamless messaging experience for all users.
Noknok is about much more than just delivering messages instantly. noknok is also about establishing identities and promoting personalities. The latest evolution of noknok includes content delivery services, social networking gateways, and chat rooms, to further grow and enhance the user experience.
TMN LAUNCHES SUPER SMS
Emphasising the benefits of the evolved SMS model for Mobile IM deployments, Portuguese operator TMN announced the launch of its innovative Super SMS instant messaging service. TMN selected LogicaCMG, working with Colibria, to enhance its current messaging services with IM and Presence capabilities. TMN's Super SMS enables the exchange of instant messages between a combination of mobile handset and PC clients.
Keith Gibson, Colibria CEO commented: "The launch of TMN's next-generation messaging services positions the operator as one of the most forward thinking in Europe. Colibria's IMPS-based Mobile IM solution has been integrated into LogicaCMG's messaging proposition as it offers the broadest range of functionality, combined with the flexibility to integrate with existing messaging services. Presence-based mobile messaging allows users to take their text-based communications to the next natural stage – a more interactive and immediate messaging experience."
MOBILE INSTANT MESSAGING COMES TO MALAYSIA
Colibria provides the leading Malaysian Operator Maxis with their Mobile Instant Messaging solution. This brand new service enables Maxis subscribers to enjoy instant group communications with friends and colleagues.
The solution provided by Colibria includes its SMS Interworking module to support SMS Continuity, whereby instant messages can be delivered as an SMS – and vice versa – if the recipient is not yet a MIM subscriber. Maxis and Colibria are also working closely with other Malaysian Operators to develop Interconnections between the national Mobile IM services, ensuring that irrespective of their network, all the country’s 21 million subscribers can communicate using Mobile IM.
MOBILE INSTANT MESSAGING THROUGHOUT THE NORDIC AND BALTIC COUNTRIES
TeliaSonera launched its first Mobile Instant Messaging (MIM) service, which is provided and hosted by Colibria, in March 2007. Initially launched in Estonia and Finland, with additional rollout to Denmark, Norway and Sweden, the service will reach over 11m subscribers throughout the Nordic and Baltic countries by the end of 2007.
Using Colibria’s Windows Live Messenger solution, the service gives subscribers instant chat access, enabling friends and colleagues to exchange messages via their mobile handsets and pc. TeliaSonera's new service combines Internet IM's feature-rich experience with the personal nature of mobile. Customers are able to send instant messages to online MSN buddies on both mobile and PC, giving TeliaSonera's existing messaging community an additional, new-generation service. Colibria's Windows Live Messenger solution provides an intuitive, engaging consumer experience that exploits Colibria's technology.
Indra Åsander, Vice President and Head of Content Mobility Services at TeliaSonera AB, said: "With 1.5 billion mobile devices in the world today and more than three times the number of PCs, we recognise that MIM has enormous market potential. The accessibility and great user experience of MIM make it a compelling proposition for us and our subscribers."
DYNAMIC INTERCONNECTION – TELEFÓNICA & VODAFONE
In 2007 Colibria bought together Telefónica Móviles España's SMS 2.0 Messaging Service with Vodafone Messenger - creating Spain's first new generation messaging interconnect – already live for over 70% of the country's mobile subscribers.
The interconnection of SMS 2.0 with Vodafone represents a significant stride forward, particularly in response to the GSM Associations' Personal IM initiative, allowing Operators and Service Providers to create new generation mobile communities based on SMS and IM working together. To accelerate consumer adoption of SMS 2.0, Colibria's Interworking module supports SMS Continuity – Telefonica customers can send instant messages as an SMS to any contacts who do not yet subscribe to SMS 2.0, and vice versa.
Alphonso Perea Mosaleda, Head of Messaging Development for Telefónica Móviles España: "Extending our SMS 2.0 service with interconnect is a key milestone in the adoption curve for new generation SMS. This allows Telefónica subscribers to communicate easily with their friends and colleagues across the Vodafone network, using the Telefónica Móviles España SMS 2.0 messaging service."
