Industry Associations

The communications industry is stronger when companies work together in the best interests of the sector and consumers. Colibria believes MIM will reach its full potential by interoperating between networks and interworking with current messaging formats. By ensuring interoperability, consumers can send messages to others, regardless of the mobile networks they subscribe to and the devices they use. Interworking with established formats such as SMS will also increase the number of consumers who can use the service. The result is a compatible solution that encourages use and enhances profits.

As such, Colibria is committed to working with the communications industry to define and promote adoption of MIM and Presence standards. By placing these universal standards at the heart of Colibria's products and solutions, the company will ensure interoperability between devices, platforms and Operators.

Today, Colibria's Instant Messaging and Presence (IMPS and SIP/IMS) offering is the product and service trial standard for interoperability testing, helping drive standards across the world.

Industry-Associations-GSMAGSMA Personal IM Initiative: Colibria participates as an Associate Member in the GSMA Personal Instant Messaging (Personal IM) initiative. This initiative aims to allow handset consumers worldwide to exchange instant messages across networks, and is based on the following principles:

  • Interoperability: Allowing consumers to send instant messages across different Operator networks, creating a connected community that spans mobile and fixed worlds
  • Real-time delivery: Delivering personal IM services that enable consumers to exchange messages in real time
  • Security: Protecting consumers from spam, viruses and other malicious content
  • Initiating party pays: Ensuring consumers only pay to send messages, not to receive them
  • Presence: Allowing consumers to see when people are online with the added assurance of message receipts
